The Design Process
Learning Intention:To better understand the design process.
Success Criteria:I can name the five main stages of the design process.
ACTIVITYRead "The stages of the design process" and explain in your own words what occurs at each stage.
1. Need/opportunity (problem) 2. Investigating 3. Generating 4. Producing 5. Evaluating. Discussion: With the person next to you, explain the problem and the process that you followed when you made your breakfast or lunch today. |
ACTIVITYThe Need: You arrive home from school at 4:00 and see a note from your parents on the bench saying they will be out for dinner and you will be in charge of cooking dinner for your younger brother and sister..
The Design Brief: In the fridge there is beef mince, two chicken thighs, grated cheese, carrots, broccoli, lettuce and red capsicum. In the pantry there is many types of pasta, rice, flours, tin tomatoes and tomato paste, a range of sauces, noodles, a taco kit and some onions, potatoes and garlic. The meal needs to be enjoyed by all 3 children and be ready at 6:00. Identify the constraints and considerations set out in the design brief and develop a set of Criteria for Success questions. Generating: Generate two ideas that would fit the brief. Create a simple a recipe that will fit the brief Producing: Make a list of equipment you used, risks or hazards and safe food handling skills. Evaluating: Answer the Criteria for Success questions. Reflect on the skills that you would've used. What would you do differently next time. |
