In two columns, list what you believe are the healthy/unhealthy foods that you enjoy eating. Which has more? What impacts may this have on your health? Lesson 1Activity 1.
Research Cardiovascular disease and complete the following. 1. Write a definition of Cardiovascular Disease 2. Pick one (coronary heart disease, angina, heart attack, congenital heart disease and stroke) and find out the short term/long term effects 3. List prevention strategies. 4. Find out how common it is in Australia/The world 5. Make a table with two columns headed Increasing the risk and decreasing the risk and write 5 in each. The following websites may help! |
Cardiovascular DiseaseWe saw last session that Cardiovascular Disease is the leading cause of death in Australia. Some deaths caused by this disease are preventable and healthy eating can play a huge part in prevention.
Lesson 2Activity 1.
Make two columns in your book titled "foods to eat" and "food to avoid" List as many foods as you can under each heading. Using the guidelines, create a two day meal planner (breakfast, lunch and dinner and two snacks). Try to be creative and make it as delicious as possible. Remember, healthy eating doesn't have to be boring!!! View the following PDF and website. Activity 2.
Research the Heart Foundation Tick Program and answer the following questions. 1. What is the program and it's purpose. 2. What does the tick on a package tell shoppers? 3. Write down 5 products that have the tick on them. 4. Why did the program start? 5. How many products have the tick? Activity 3 Heart Healthy Take Away. Think of your favorite take away food. It is most likely high in fat, salt, sugar and should only be eaten sometimes. Modify your favourite take away food to make a healthier, home made version. Write out a new recipe, including ingredient list and method, for your chosen take away food. Remember to substitute any ingredients that may be high in fat and or sugar/salt. Also, think of healthier ways to cook food. For example, rather than deep frying fish, grill or oven bake it! Activity 4
