Why do we eat what we eat?
Why do we eat what we eat? When we think about food, there are many factors that influence our food choices at any particular time. The point of this question is that we all eat for the same reasons – hunger, appetite, to survive, for our health – but it is what we eat, our particular choices, that make eating so complex.
What’s in the food we eat? Food is a complex mixture of a wide variety of different substances. These include the nutrients, but many other substances such as colours, flavours, food additives, contaminants, to name a few.
ACTIVITYThink about what you ate for your most recent meal.
Write the main ingredients of the meal and think about how it fits into the AGHE. Which section had the most foods? Which section had the least? Now that you know what you should be eating, will this inform your future meal choices? How? |
